CAIRO – 12 February 2025: Egypt expresses its displeasure with statements made by Israeli and American officials regarding the Palestinian cause, Egyptian sources said on Tuesday, with the US doubling down on its proposal to take control of the Gaza Strip and displace its residents.

The sources emphasized that Egypt rejects any proposal to allocate land for Gaza residents or displace Palestinians from their lands and resettle them elsewhere, AlQahera News reported.

“Egypt reaffirms its rejection of the resettlement of Gaza residents and adheres to its firm position,” the sources added.

Egypt emphasizes that any solutions to the crisis must ensure that the residents of the Gaza Strip remain on their land, the sources added.

TRUMP'S PLAN

The Egyptian statements come after US President Donald Trump earlier on the day reiterated his proposal for Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians after resettling them from Gaza, a plan that both Arab countries repeatedly rejected.

“I believe we’ll have a parcel of land in Jordan. I believe we’ll have a parcel of land in Egypt,” Trump said.

“We may have someplace else, but I think when we finish our talks, we’ll have a place where they’re going to live very happily and very safely,” he added.

Trump reaffirmed his plans to “take” Gaza in remarks to the press while sitting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in the Oval Office on Tuesday.

“We’re going to take it. We’re going to hold it. We’re going to cherish it. We’re going to get it going eventually, where a lot of jobs are going to be created for the people in the Middle East,” Trump stated, claiming that his plan will “bring peace” to the region.

Israeli ministers and officials, including far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, have called for implementing Trump’s plan in Gaza.

Following the meeting with Trump, King Abdullah stressed Jordan's unwavering position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

"This is the unified Arab position," the king said. "Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all."

EGYPT'S PLAN

In response, Egypt said on Tuesday it plans to present a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, ensuring that the Palestinian people remain on their land in accordance with their legitimate and legal rights.

Egypt, in a statement by the foreign ministry, emphasized that any vision for resolving the Palestinian cause must consider avoiding jeopardizing the gains of peace in the region.

Simultaneously, such vision “must address the underlying causes and roots of the conflict by ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and implementing the two-state solution as the only path to achieving stability and coexistence among the peoples of the region,” the foreign ministry added.

Egypt expressed its eagerness to cooperate with the US administration led by Trump to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the region through a fair resolution to the Palestinian cause that respects the rights of the peoples in the area.
