Egyptian FM discusses Gaza ceasefire with U.S. National Security Advisor, Special Envoy to the Middle East

CAIRO – 11 February 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met Monday U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk in Washington.

 

The meeting tackled different aspects of the strategic relation between Egypt and the United States, and strengthening cooperation to fulfill joint interests. In that framework, Minister Abdelatty commended the bilateral ties level over the past four decades, saying that Egypt looked forward to work with the new administration to building upon the already ramified collaboration.  

 

The two sides thoroughly discussed the updates in the Middle East, starting with the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, especially the deteriorating conditions in Gaza Strip. The Egyptian minister expressed aspiration that coordination with the United States would persist with the aim of accomplishing peace and justice in the region.

 

In the same context, the minister displayed the efforts deployed by the country to ensure the implementation of the three phases of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, supply of humanitarian aid, and reconstruction of the enclave without the external displacement of Palestinians.  

 

Minister Abdelatty equally stressed the necessity of a political process that would lead up to establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967 having as capital Eastern Jerusalem, as that solution is essential for achieving sustainable peace in the Middle East.
