CAIRO – 16 January 2025: Egypt stressed the utmost importance to start -without any delay- the implementation of the announced ceasefire agreement in the besieged Gaza Strip and the prisoner swap deal between Hamas and Israel.

Egypt stressed the need for the parties to the agreement to adhere to its provisions and work to implement its stages within specified timelines, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

An agreement has been finally approved on Wednesday evening to halt the war on Gaza with Egyptian, American, and Qatari mediation after nearly 15 months of suffering and violence that led to the killing of more than 46,707 Palestinians. As per the new agreement, the ceasefire will come into force on January 19 at 2:30 P.M.

Egypt also affirmed that it is highly important to implement the agreement agreement to increase the pace of access and the safe and effective distribution of humanitarian aid on the widest scale throughout the Gaza Strip.

Cairo called on the international community to support the humanitarian effort and provide aid to the Gaza Strip, and to start early projects in preparation for the reconstruction of the Strip. The Foreign Ministry also announced that Egypt is ready to host an international conference for the post-war reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

It emphasized that this agreement aims to halt the bloodshed of innocent Palestinians, who have endured the ravages of war and a severe humanitarian crisis for over 15 months, marked by unprecedented suffering.

Additionally, Egypt highlighted the significance of this agreement, reached through intensive efforts in coordination with Qatar and the United States. It marks the beginning of a serious and credible political process aimed at restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the entire Palestinian national territory, based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, Egypt stressed, is the only sustainable solution capable of ending the cycles of conflict once and for all.
