A Russian Ural Airlines plane makes a safe emergency landing at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, January 3, 2025 - Civil Aviation Ministry
CAIRO – 3 January 2025: Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport witnessed a safe emergency landing of a Russian Ural Airlines plane, an Airbus A321, on Friday evening after a reported technical malfunction, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement.
The Ural Airlines aircraft was en route from Sharm El-Sheikh Airport to Yekaterinburg, Russia, carrying 236 passengers, the ministry said, confirming that all passengers were safely transferred to the international departure hall.
The ministry noted that the pilot requested an emergency landing just 10 minutes after takeoff, when the pilot reported a sudden technical failure in one of the engines.
The ministry said the plane landing took place amidst coordination among all relevant authorities at the airport and the presence of fire and rescue vehicles as well as various necessary supplies.
A crisis management room was promptly established after the pilot’s declaration.
The plane safely landed at exactly 4:55 PM where it was directed to the designated location.
Specialized technical teams then conducted necessary inspections on the aircraft to determine the cause of the malfunction and implement required repairs.
Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport management confirmed its full readiness to handle such emergencies in accordance with the highest international safety and security standards.
