92 acquitted, 43 sentenced to 25Yrs in prison for ‘Cabinet incidents’

CAIRO – 25 July 2017: A total of 43 defendants were sentenced to 25 years in prison, while 92 others were acquitted of committing violence and burning the Institut d’Égypte during clashes occurred outside the Cabinet headquarters Cairo downtown in 2011, a Cairo Criminal court ruled on Tuesday.

The court also handed down 10 years in prison against nine minors and five year-imprisonment against a female defendant in the same trial, which is dubbed in media as “Trial of the Cabinet Incidents .”

It also fined the convicts 71,684,000 LE ($4 million), the cost of damages caused to the Institut d’Égypte.
