CAIRO - 6 October 2024: Fifty one years ago, the Egyptian Army succeeded in crossing the once-thought impenetrable “Bar Lev Line,” that was built by Israel along the eastern bank of the Suez Canal.  

As Sunday marks the 51st anniversary of the October war, et highlights in this report some phrases that are associated with the victory. 

 

The phrases are:

 

- The Air Strike:

The air strike is one of the most important elements in achieving victory in the October War, 

The media coverage highlighted the Egyptian Air Strike that was carried out by the Egyptian and Syrian air forces with the aim of hitting Israeli targets in Sinai and the Golan Heights, in a surprise, unified attack at the same time on Oct. 6, 1973. 

 

Egyptian People’s Will   

This phrase expresses the Egyptian people's faith in their country's army, their constant support for it and its capabilities.

It is one of the phrases that is repeated in every anniversary of the October War and also expresses the challenge and determination to achieve the impossible, including eliminating the myth of the invincible army, in reference to The Israeli army.

The army and the people are one hand

The national spirit and the cohesion of the Egyptian people with their army was this phrase that expresses the October War, and this phrase was repeated even after many years, when the Egyptian state was fighting terrorist groups, in which the Egyptian people expressed their support for the army in all its decisions.

 

October Crossing  

This phrase combines the memory of the great crossing of the Bar Lev Line and the achievement of the Egyptian army's victory in October. 

In Oct. 6, 1973, the valiant Egyptian leadership proved Israel was wrong about its impregnable fortress, after the Egyptian soldiers penetrated the line, raised the Egyptian flag and regained the occupied land in Sinai. 

This day marks a national occasion, where Egyptians celebrate every year their victory.

This phrase expresses the sense of pride after raising the Egyptian flag on the reclaimed land in Sinai. 

The first soldier to raise Egypt’s flag in Sinai Peninsula was Mohamed Abdel Salam al-Abbasy, who was among the first soldiers who crossed from the West Bank of the Suez Canal to its eastern side.
