CAIRO – 28 September 2024: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has delegated Minister of Defense and Military Production Abdel Maguid Saqr to lay a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, commemorating the 54th anniversary of his passing.

During the ceremony, Saqr met with Nasser's family, where he conveyed President Sisi’s deep appreciation and acknowledgment of Nasser's substantial contributions to supporting Arab and regional causes, as well as aiding nations in their quests for independence and liberation.

Speaking on the significance of Egyptian history, the minister highlighted the achievements of the July 23 Revolution spearheaded by the late president and the Armed Forces, supported by the Egyptian populace, in establishing a robust military capable of safeguarding the nation.

The event was attended by various leaders of the Armed Forces alongside the family of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, paying tribute to his enduring legacy.

Nasser passed away on September 28, 1970, at the age of 52 after succumbing to a heart attack, leaving a legacy of achievements in the political, economic, and social spheres throughout his 14-year term.

His sudden death deeply saddened Arab state leaders, who joined the throngs of millions of grieving Egyptians that flooded the streets on that solemn day.
