Egyptian government studies establishing nurseries, kindergarten classrooms in rural villages

CAIRO – 22 August 2024: The ministries of social solidarity, education, local development, as well as the National Coalition for Civil Work study the possibility of establishing nurseries and kindergarten classrooms at the Family and Childhood Development Centers in the villages included in the first phase of Decent Life initiative.

 

The number of centers targeted is 47 lying majorly in Upper Egypt. The nurseries will be designed to serve children aged between 0 and 4.

 

The Decent Life initiative is planned to take place in 4,500 villages dispersed among 20 governorates. It was launched in January 2019, and is being executed over three phases. The first phase - completed - targeted villages where poverty rates exceed 70 percent; the second – launched in July - is for villages where the range is between 70 percent and 50 percent; and, the third will consist of villages where the percentage is below 50 percent.

 

The initiative is aimed at introducing infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life of its residents.
