CAIRO – 18 August 2024: Egypt has condemned the terrorist blast in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of individuals on Saturday.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Egypt's backing for Somalia in its fight against terrorism and in its pursuit of security and stability for the Somali populace.

The ministry expressed heartfelt condolences to the government, people of Somalia, and the families of the victims, while also extending wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the attack.

A series of bombings in Mogadishu and Afgooye, Somalia, claimed the lives of more than 20 individuals and left many others wounded yesterday, according to eyewitnesses cited by the Somali news portal Horn Observer.

In Mogadishu, a dual IED explosion occurred at a popular teashop in the Dayniile district, targeting civilians gathered at the location, killing at least 18 people and injuring over 10 others, as reported by eyewitnesses.

Around 30 kilometers away from Mogadishu, in Afgooye, another bomb detonation led to the deaths of at least four individuals and caused injuries to several others in a marketplace.

These incidents unfolded just a day after a roadside explosion in the village of Sariitow, situated west of Baidoa in Somalia, claimed the lives of at least 12 individuals on Friday. Al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
