CAIRO – 26 July 2024: Five individuals suffered injuries from smoke inhalation after a fire erupted in two buildings in Cairo's densely populated Mosky district early on Friday.

Upon the outbreak, Civil Defense forces and district officials swiftly responded to the emergency with 12 fire trucks to extinguish the flames, as confirmed by the Cairo governorate in a statement.

The injured individuals received immediate on-site treatment.

The fire originated in a three-story building within the district, functioning as a clothing warehouse, according to the statement.

Starting on the ground floor, the fire quickly spread throughout the entire building, leading to the collapse of upper floors and a section of the facade.

Subsequently, the fire extended to an adjacent four-story building, also utilized as a clothing storage facility, the governorate added.

Governor of Cairo Ibrahim Saber has mandated the formation of an engineering committee to evaluate the damage inflicted on the two affected properties and their neighboring structures.

Governor Saber diligently monitored the civil defense teams' efforts to contain the fire and execute cooling procedures.

He directed for the prompt clean-up of the aftermath once the investigations by the Public Prosecution and criminal examination teams conclude to ascertain the fire's cause.

In recent years, numerous significant fires across Egyptian governorates have been attributed to unlicensed clothing warehouses, highlighting a recurring safety concern.
