CAIRO – 7 July 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has stressed the Egypt will spare no effort in attempting to heal the rift between Sudanese parties and end the ongoing war.

Sisi received on Sunday a delegation from participants at the Sudanese civil and political forces conference hosted by Egypt.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Aty and Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel attended the meeting, alongside the Chadian foreign minister and senior officials from the UAE, Qatar, South Sudan and Germany.

Representatives from the African Union, the Arab League, the United Nations and ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom, Norway, the EU and Saudi Arabia were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Sisi affirmed that Egypt will spare no effort to attempt to heal the rift between Sudanese sides to restore security and stability in Sudan and protect the resources of the Sudanese people.

He underlined the necessity for consolidating efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and end the deep crisis that Sudan is living.

The president said the Egyptian state is exerting maximum effort, bilaterally, regionally and internationally, to address the repercussions of the Sudanese crisis.

This is reflected in providing comprehensive support, showcasing the specificity of Egyptian-Sudanese relations, he added.

Egypt continues to send a significant number of humanitarian aid shipments to people in Sudan, in addition to hosting millions of Sudanese nationals in Egypt, he added.

Politically, Sisi stressed the necessity for the transition to a political track in Sudan to involve all parties in accordance with to the Sudanese national interest.

He emphasized that any credible political process must be based on the respect for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and the preservation of its state and institutions.

The president highlighted these factors as the foundation for the unity, development, and stability of Sudan and its people.

Sisi reiterated Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with regional and international partners to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

During the meeting, the speakers representing Sudanese political and civil forces expressed their deep appreciation and admiration for Egypt's sincere efforts in supporting Sudan since the onset of the current crisis.

They added that this reflects the deep bonds that unite the peoples of both countries and their shared history and destiny.

They also welcomed Egypt's endeavors to bridge the viewpoints of Sudanese parties and find a way out of the current crisis.

Additionally, they underscored Egypt's support for the Sudanese people, whether through its relentless efforts to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Sudan and the generous hosting of the Sudanese people.

Sudan conference in Cairo attended by civil forces
 

Under the theme "Together to End the War," the conference in Cairo was launched in response to the civil war that broke out in mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to the United Nations in April, the war in Sudan has killed almost 15,000 people and forced eight million others to flee their homes.

The war also left 25 million Sudanese people in dire need of aid amid warnings of famine, aid blockades and growing atrocities.
