CAIRO – 10 May 2024:  Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called on Friday his British counterpart, David Cameron, to discuss the latest developments regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Shoukry and Cameron also discussed the latest round of negotiations hosted in Cairo which aimed at concluding an agreement that achieves a comprehensive deal that includes a ceasefire and prisoners swap deal.

Minister Shoukry stressed the necessity of mobilizing all international efforts to make the current mediation efforts successful. He also urged the parties to show flexibility and take the necessary steps to reach the point of agreement.

The two ministers highlighted the Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, where Minister Shoukry reiterated to his British counterpart the catastrophic humanitarian risks to the future of more than 1.4 million Palestinians, and the serious negative consequences of the Israeli military operations in Rafah.

He also warned of the consequences of the dangerous escalation of Israel's control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, and the blocking of the main and safe port in the Strip for the exit of the wounded and the entry of urgent humanitarian aid.

Minister Shoukry also called for the need to pressure Israel to comply with its obligations as an occupying power, and to stop its systematic policies to create an uninhabited reality in the Gaza Strip, stressing Egypt’s rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians, and not allowing the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.
