Israel rejects entry of UN Special Rapporteur to Gaza Strip

CAIRO – 21 April 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met Sunday with United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca P. Albanese who is holding a regional tour that includes Egypt and Jordan.

 

Albanese stated that Israel had rejected her entry to Gaza Strip, expressing appreciation to Egypt for its role in delivering aid.

 

The meeting tackled Israeli practices and policies in the occupied Palestinian territories so as the two sides reiterated the salience of ending the aggression against Gaza Strip, and the violence committed by settlers in the West Bank holding perpetrators accountable. They also stressed the importance of guaranteeing the sufficient delivery of aid.

 

Minister Shokry warned of the grim consequences of the worsening humanitarian circumstances in Gaza Strip on regional security and stability. He also denounced the abstention of some countries to label the Israeli practices blatant violation of international law.

 

The Egyptian minister and the UN rapporteur exchanged assessments of the humanitarian status of Palestinians in Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Eastern Jerusalem. In that context, the former underscored that Israel must stop attempts of displacing Palestinians externally, collective punishment, and random targeting of civilians.
