CAIRO - 18 April 2024: Egypt's Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, represented by the General Committee for Foreign Aid,  launched the sixth convoy of urgent relief aid for the people of Gaza.

 

It is the largest convoy since the beginning of the events, consisting of 30 trucks loaded with 100 tons of supplies.

 

Dr. Ali El Meselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade and Chairman of the General Committee for Foreign Aid, stated that this convoy is in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to provide urgent relief aid to the people of Gaza.

 

He emphasized Egypt's support for the Palestinian people in facing the difficult conditions they endure.

 

The minister explained that the assistance provided is coordinated between the Relief Office in Gaza, the Catholic Relief Services in Egypt, and the General Committee for Foreign Aid at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

 

Meanwhile, Ahmed Fathy, Deputy Chairman of the General Committee for Foreign Aid at the Ministry of Supply, inspected the sixth convoy before its departure to the Rafah border crossing, heading to Gaza.

 

He stated that the convoy was prepared based on a study of the situation and the sector's requirements through continuous coordination between the committee and the Catholic Relief Services.

 

The convoy includes 7,000 blankets, 5,000 mattresses, and 2,000 sleeping mats. Fathy added that a total of 6 aid convoys have been sent to Gaza through the cooperation between the Foreign Aid Committee and the Catholic Relief Services.

 

The first convoy included 16 tons of aid, the second 23 tons, the third 61 tons, the fourth 40 tons, the fifth 65 tons, and the sixth 100 tons. He further clarified that the total aid provided to Gaza through 106 trucks, comprising 23,000 blankets, 16,000 mattresses, 8,000 tents, 5,000 sleeping mats, 6,000 plastic tarps for tent protection from rain, and general and personal hygiene items for 30,000 families.

 

It is worth mentioning that the Foreign Aid Committee has been sending urgent relief convoys to Gaza since October, as part of continuous support for the sector, emphasizing the importance of ensuring its safe and sustainable flow. Fathy affirmed that preparations are underway for the seventh convoy based on the demands of Gaza residents, in coordination with all relevant authorities.

 

Dina Rafat, representative of the Catholic Relief Services in Egypt, stated that urgent relief aid has been sent to Gaza since last October through cooperation with the General Committee for Foreign Aid at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

 

Rafat emphasized the significant cooperation from the Egyptian government in facilitating all convoy procedures and overcoming obstacles. She mentioned that aid directed to Gaza is sourced from the local market in Egypt. 

 

Egyptian Air Force have airdropped tons of relief and humanitarian aid into Gaza Strip during the Eid al Fitr days in an attempt to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.

 

The airdropping operations came in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, and in cooperation with Jordan.
