CAIRO – 8 April 2024: A high-level Egyptian source confirmed that there is progress in the discussions and agreement on the basic principles between all parties regarding the ceasefire, hostages swap deal in the Gaza Strip according to al Qahera news channel.

The source added that the delegations of Qatar and Hamas left Cairo on Sunday night and will return within two days to agree on the terms of the final agreement.

The source explained, that Egypt is making every effort to reach a truce agreement in Gaza, noting that there is noticeable progress in consensus on many controversial points.

The source also confirmed that there are intensive Egyptian efforts to direct viewpoints to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza Strip, noting that negotiation meetings between Hamas and Israel are continuing under Egyptian sponsorship and with a Qatari-American presence.

The source indicated that the proposed truce between the Palestinian factions and Israel includes a prisoner exchange deal and mechanisms for the return of the displaced in the Gaza Strip.

The last hours witnessed intense Egyptian efforts and communications to resume truce negotiations in the Gaza Strip.

The State Information Service (SIS) announced that Egypt has escalated the number of humanitarian aid trucks entering Gaza to a minimum of 300 trucks per day through the Rafah border crossing.

According to Head of the SIS, Diaa Rashwan, this decision, effective from Sunday, was made under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

In recent weeks, Cairo, along with Doha and Paris, has hosted multiple rounds of talks with mediators attempting to broker an agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Efforts to secure a truce before Ramadan were unsuccessful, and with Eid Al-Fitr approaching later this week, no agreement has been reached to halt or at least pause the six months of Israeli aggression in the strip.

Israel has disregarded global calls for a cessation of the conflict in Gaza, despite a UN Security Council resolution passed in late March, which demanded an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan.

The Israeli war since October 7 has resulted in over 33,000 fatalities, nearly 76,000 injuries, and extensive damage to Gaza's infrastructure.
