Egyptian Tribal, Families Council organizes longest iftar banquet “without food” in solidarity with Gaza

CAIRO – 29 March 2024: The Egyptian Tribal and Families Council organized on Friday the longest iftar banquet “without food” in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The Iftar banquet organized on the coast of Arish city in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza included only dates, water and milk but without food.

Meanwhile, up to 100,000 “Iftar and Suhoor” meals and were sent to the people of Gaza through the Egyptian Red Crescent in coordination with the Palestinian Red Crescent this morning.

The meals were prepared by number of civil society organizations in Al-Arish city whom participated in organizing the iftar banquet.

The Egyptian Tribal and Families Council is keen to organize the banquet annually during Ramadan, however this year was different because of the events in Gaza.

A Palestinian family living in Arish praised the banquet idea saying that a long banquet “without food” sends strong message about the conditions Palestinians are living specially during Ramadan.

Salim Al-Shaer, a Palestinian currently living in Al-Arish, said that the idea of the banquet is a ‘clear and strong message’ indicating that the Egyptian people and the people of Sinai stand alongside the brothers in Palestine.

Sally Salim, Salim Al-Shaer’s daughter, described in statements the idea of the table as ‘wonderful’, stressing that the people of Sinai are making strenuous efforts to support Gaza.

She confirmed that she and her family feel extremely safe in Sinai.
