Cairo, March 10, 2024 - Egypt is entering the final phase of the monumental Great Transfiguration Project, a distinctive location that serves as a convergence point for monotheistic religions.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli expressed Egypt's intention to present this project as a "gift to the entire world and all religions," paying homage to its significance, which encompasses Islamic, Christian, and Jewish references.

Madbouli emphasized the profound importance of this site, as it hosts the sacred valley of Tuwa, Jabal Moussa (Mount Sinai), El-Tor Mountain, and the renowned spot of transfiguration.

The project, initially announced in 2020, aims to transform this unique location, referred to by monotheistic religions’ versus, into a global destination cherished by visitors from all corners of the world.

The project is funded by the New Urban Communities Authority with a budget of EGP 10 billion.

It includes the development of St. Catherine Airport, transforming it into an international airport with a spacious passenger terminal befitting the city's stature.

Additionally, eco-lodges, mountain hotels, and a new residential neighborhood in Zaitouna are part of the project.

Madbouli highlighted that the project will provide over 1,000 tourism and hotel rooms, positioning the city as a significant tourist destination.

He emphasized that the entire project adheres to UNESCO standards, as the area is registered as a World Heritage Site and a natural reserve according to Egyptian law.

Meanwhile, Madbouli said Steigenberger Hotels AG signed today management contracts for one of the hotels in St. Catherine, in preparation for its opening.

He added that negotiations are underway with other international companies to begin operating the rest of the facilities in the city.

The design of the project maintains harmony with nature, ensuring that buildings do not overpower the natural and heritage aspects, preserving the existing colors, agriculture, and overall site layout. Notably, olive trees mentioned in various holy books, including the Holy Quran, are incorporated into the project.

Other elements of the project include the development of the Bedouin area, housing units, and pedestrian lanes, as well as the enhancement of infrastructure, facilities, and flood prevention measures.

Moreover, a "Peace Square" will be established to host diverse celebrations, activities, and performances.

Egypt aspires to welcome up to 30 million tourists by 2028, building upon the record-breaking 14.9 million tourists in 2023.

Tourism serves as a vital source of foreign currency for Egypt, and the Great Transfiguration Project is poised to contribute significantly to this goal.
