CAIRO – 16 February 2024: Egypt is keen on the safety and stability of Lebanon and totally supports Lebanese sovereignty over its territories in face of any violations, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Friday.

During meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of their participation in the 60th edition of the Munich Security Conference, held on February 16 -18, Shoukry discussed the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

He affirmed that Egypt expressed its deep concern on the dangers posed by the ongoing conflict in Gaza in all its contacts with the relevant parties

Egypt believes that the conflict threatens the stability of the entire region, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry quoted Shouky as saying during the meeting.

Shouky expressed Egypt's support for Mikati's efforts to deal with the current situation in Lebanon and appreciated his work to reduce the consequences of the presidential vacuum on the Lebanese institutions.

He affirmed Cairo's cooperation with Mikati to overcome this difficult stage and prevent economic and security deterioration.

Egypt refrains from nominating specific individuals for the presidency and does not engage in any form of interference in the nomination process, the foreign minister said.

Mikati expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt's support in these delicate circumstances and its pivotal role in finding effective ways to help Lebanon with challenges facing it; namely the presidential vacuum crisis, the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the risks of repercussions related to the expansion of the war that poses a threat to the security and safety of Lebanon and the entire region and could lead to a period of instability.

He stated that Lebanon is relying on Egypt's support to achieve its national interest, while preserving its security, rights, and capabilities.
