CAIRO – 12 February 2024: Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid rejected Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s remarks claiming that Egypt allegedly “has a great responsibility for what happened on October 7 incidents.

“It is unfortunate and disgraceful that the Israeli Finance Minister, Smotrich, continues to make irresponsible and inciting statements, which only reveal a hunger for killing and destruction, and sabotage any attempt to contain the crisis in the Gaza Strip. These statements are completely unacceptable, as Egypt fully controls its territory, and does not allow any party to embroil Egypt's name in any failed attempt to justify its shortcomings,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said on his X on Monday.

Israeli Extremist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich claimed that Egypt has a big responsibility for what happened on October 7, and Hamas was armed through it [Egypt].

Israel is trying to launch a ground offensive against the Palestinian city of Rafah, where 1.5 million internally displaced Palestinians are sheltering, at the border with Egypt. However, Egypt has repeatedly warned against any ground offensive as it would push Palestinians inside Egypt’s Sinai and would lead to the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.

A high-ranking Egyptian source told Al Qaher News that Egypt is closely following up on the situation in the city Rafah and is ready to deal with all scenarios.
