CAIRO – 29 January 2024: The Egyptian House of Representatives (the lower of the parliament) finally approved new government-drafted amendments to the Military Judiciary Law No. 25 of 1966 regarding securing and protecting public and vital facilities in the country.

There was a vision to merge the laws of the protection and security of public and vital facilities into one law that comes in line with the tasks of the armed forces under the constitution to protect the basic components of the state.

Under the law, all crimes that occur against public and vital facilities shall be referred to the military judiciary. It also grants officers of the armed forces and non-commissioned officers, who are appointed by a decision of the Minister of Defense, the power to law enforcement.
