Egypt has 15K societal leaders raising awareness on women rights

CAIRO – 9 January 2024: The Ministry of Social Solidarity released a press statement on the "Waai" programme implemented by 15,000 societal leaders who have reached 1.6 million families nationwide raising their awareness on violence against women, marriage, and overpopulation.

 

The societal leaders make home visits and hold lectures on the value of women, girls' right in education, necessity of respect and understanding in the marital relationship, the right age for marriage, women health, and curbing population growth.  

 

The leaders also promote information on centers providing services pertinent to women health, healthcare in general, vocational training, economic empowerment, and support to abused women.

 

Recently, societal leaders have executed a campaign on preventing infection with winter diseases, and focusing on "Two Are Enough" campaign aimed at correcting misconceptions leading parents to have a large number of children. They made 1.6 million home visits and 3,500 lectures that were attended by a total of 950,000 men and women.
