CAIRO – 27 December 2023: Jordan’s King Abdullah II is departing to Cairo to meet with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Royal Hashemite Court said on Wednesday.

The meeting will discuss the serious developments in Gaza and ways to impose a ceasefire in the strip, the court added.

The visit comes a day after Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi visited Cairo, where he exchanged views with his Egyptian counterpart, Minister Sameh Shoukry, on the developments in Gaza and endeavors to achieve a ceasefire.

The foreign ministers also discussed the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution no. 2720 on increasing the flow of humanitarian aid into the strip and creating a UN mechanism to observe and follow up on the delivery of the aid.

They also tackled the security of navigation in the Red Sea given its impact on the movement of global trade as well as the national security of Egypt and Jordan.

Egypt and Jordan have worked from day one on de-escalating the conflict in Gaza and putting an end to the Israeli aggression in the strip since early October.

Both countries have called for imposing a ceasefire to stop the bloodshed of innocent civilians in Gaza, which is witnessing one of the world’s worst tragedies and humanitarian crises.

Egypt and Jordan have also worked to face the Israeli scheme to forcibly displace Palestinian people in Gaza and relocate them to the two neighboring Arab states.

The Israeli aggression in Gaza has so far killed nearly 21,000 people, most of whom are women and children. It has also displaced 85 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million population, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) last week.
