CAIRO - 12 December 2023: Students from Cairo University marched through the campus on the third and final day of Egypt’s 2024 presidential election to encourage young people to participate in the political process and cast their ballots.

The march, which was organized by the university’s student union, began at the university’s main campus and ended at the university’s iconic dome. Students chanted slogans and sang patriotic songs as they marched, creating a festive atmosphere.

Voting is underway at all polling stations across Egypt, with turnout increasing throughout the day. The 2024 presidential election will end at 9:00 p.m. local time tonight.

On December 13, the counting of ballots will begin, and the results of the election will be announced on December 18.

The march was organized as part of an initiative launched by Egyptian journalist Ola El-Shafei, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper El-Seyoud. El-Shafei was on campus for a lecture on citizenship rights when she met with students from the university’s journalism school. The students then proposed a partnership with El-Seyoud to cover the presidential election.

The march is a sign of the growing interest among young people in Egyptian politics. It is also a reminder of the importance of civic engagement and participation in the democratic process.
