CAIRO - 9 December 2023: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received a phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday.

In a statement, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy said that the call discussed regional developments, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories, in light of the deteriorating political and humanitarian situation.

Sisi reviewed the Egyptian efforts and contacts to push for a ceasefire to protect civilians and prevent further deterioration of the dire humanitarian situation facing the residents of the Strip.

Sisi and Putin agreed on the importance of intensifying international efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire that would lead to a political solution to the Palestinian cause on the basis of the two-state solution.

The call comes as tensions remain high in the Gaza Strip after a recent escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas. The violence has killed dozens of Palestinians and Israelis.
