Sisi announces launch of 3rd AU’s reconstruction, development week

Cairo – 21 November 2023: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has announced the launch of the third reconstruction and development week of the African Union during the period from November 22 to 27.

Sisi said in a statement on Tuesday that the week aims to shed light on prioritizing efforts for peace building, reconstruction and development in Africa amid complicated challenges in the continent.

He reiterated that the current global geopolitical and economic situations require adopting a comprehensive African vision to counter challenges related to peace, security and development.

The president lauded progress in the operation of the Cairo-hosted African Union Centre for Post-conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) to serve the interests and needs of the continent, highlighting the Egyptian government’s full support for the center’s work to boost peace building efforts in Africa.

He also praised the progress achieved in the review of African policies on post-conflict reconstruction and development after Cairo hosted a high-level workshop on this score in May to contribute to upgrading African policies to cope with developments of peace building methodology and political approaches and avoid conflicts in the continent.

 President Sisi noted that Cairo hosted the High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa in October to create a room for dialogue and strengthen joint cooperation between all effective parties in Africa and make the desired integration.

He pointed out that efforts are under way to hold the fourth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, underscoring Egypt’s keenness to back efforts on maintaining peace and security and achieving stability in Africa.

Sisi also called on Africa's partners to keep their promises and offer the necessary support for African countries to back the process of peace building and development.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to efforts to bring about lasting peace and stability in Africa in coordination with African presidents and heads of government and African Union agencies and bodies in light of the Africa’s Agenda 2063.
