CAIRO – 7 November 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Tuesday United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk in the framework of holding consultations and coordination on mitigating the miserable humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

Turk listened to the Egyptian minister's assessment of the unprecedented military escalation in the Strip, and brief on the efforts deployed to reach a ceasefire and deliver aid. In that context, Shokry underscored that the entry of aid to Gaza should not discourage international parties to push for an immediate truce.

The minister added that it had been a month since the fighting began causing over 10,000 deaths among Palestinian civilians, including around 4,800 children, which showed the double standards adopted by some international parties.

On the other hand, the commissioner presented an overview of the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and plans to face, document, and verify violations. He also thanked the Egyptian government for facilitating his visit to Rafah Border Crossing, expressing keenness on continuous coordination with Egypt on the crisis.
