CAIRO – 24 October 2023: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Tuesday that the currant events in Gaza came as a result of continuing attempts of Israel to steal the Palestinian lands and create new geographical reality.

“It is important for everyone to realize that the moment we are currently living did not come out of nowhere, but rather was an accumulation as a result of continuing attempts to stealing lands and creating new geographical reality.” Shoukry said in his speech at the security council session on the developments at the Middle east

He added that the solution to the Palestinian conflict is not internal displacement, nor the displacement of an entire people to another region, ‘but rather it is justice for them to live in an independent state.’

Shoukry affirmed that the Palestinians will not leave their land, and Egypt will not accept any attempts for displacement.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister added: “History proves that the Palestinian cause has not been forgotten, or dead. But has remained steadfast. And all that the world has gained in terms of postponing the solution to the conflict has caused a lot of pain to Israel, Palestine, and the entire region.”

He also expressed his regret over ‘the duplicity with which the world deals with Gaza crises, especially the humanitarian side of it, as if the lives of the Palestinians were inferior and not worth defending.’

Shoukry called on the council states ‘before it is too late’, to announce an immediate and sustainable ceasefire without restrictions or conditions.

He also called the council to adopt a resolution that includes: ‘Stopping policies that aim to forcibly displace Palestinians. Ensuring safe and sustainable access of humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip. Providing protection for unarmed civilians in Gaza. Reaching a solution to settle the Palestinian conflict at the basis of establishing an independent Palestinian state. An independent investigation into the violations against the Palestinian people”

UN Secretary-General of António Guterres said in his speech that Hamas’s attack did not happen for no reason.

“They have been under occupation for 75 years; however, I don’t say that this justifies the attack, neither the 7th of October attack justifies the currant ‘collective punishment’ over Gaza. Even War has rules. We must demand all parties to respect the international law.” Guterres said

He added that 35 UNRWA employees were killed during the attacks that have been ongoing for two weeks in Gaza.

“Civilians must be protected. No party in any armed conflict is above the international law. Fortunately, Humanitarian aid has begun entering Gaza, but it is ‘small drop in what Gaza needs. Aid must continuously enter Gaza without any restrictions.” Guterres said.

The UN Secretary-General renewed his call for the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.

He added: “We must not ignore the basic and fundamental solution to the conflict, which is the two-state solution”

Oscar Wennesland, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace welcomed in her Egypt’s summit for peace that was held in Cairo seeking peace within the region, along with all efforts exerted by all countries to take serious steps towards peace.

Also, Lynn Hastings, U.N. humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian Territory, said: “We are grateful for both of Egypt and Qatar’s efforts to release the hostages, and we welcome all diplomatic efforts to release the remaining hostages.”
