CAIRO – 23 October 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Sunday evening a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abd El Lahyan, as they exchanged views and assessments of the deteriorating field and humanitarian conditions in Gaza Strip.

They also discussed ways of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians caused by the constant Israeli shelling of the strip. In that framework, Minister Shokry underscored the dangerousness of expanding the scope of conflict and extending violence to other areas as that would imperil regional stability and risk repercussions whose range and effect would not be predictable.

As indicated by the press statement released by the ministry on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the role assumed by Egypt in securing humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip.

The two ministers agreed on the necessity of coordinating efforts on the regional and international levels in order to ensure the safe and sustainable delivery of aid to Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian minister also briefed his Iranian counterpart on the outcomes of the Cairo Summit for Peace, and the summary of talks and meetings that took place during the summit and on its sidelines.

Minister Shokry expressed aspiration of building upon the Cairo Summit for Peace, which is the first endeavor, inclusive of regional and international parties, aimed at achieving political interaction with the crisis, and thus, devising solutions that would accomplish de-escalation and pave the way for consultations on the future of dealing with the Palestinian Cause.
