CAIRO - 20 October 2023: Amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has spoken out against what it perceives as a deliberate targeting of Egypt by Western media outlets.

In a statement, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the clear pattern of Egypt's targeting in Western media from the beginning of the crisis. The focus has been on portraying Egypt as responsible for hindering the departure of other nationals.

Ambassador Abu Zeid emphasized that the Rafah border crossing remains open, and Egypt is not to blame for any obstacles preventing the exit of these individuals.

'Targeting in Western media is clear in the current crisis, promoting displacement scenario, holding responsible for the crossing closure despite targeted attacks & refusal of aid entry & recently insinuating responsibility for obstructing third-country nationals exit', he said.

The situation underscores the importance of accurate and responsible reporting during times of crisis, as misinformation can have far-reaching consequences. Egypt's stance emphasizes the need for a fair and impartial assessment of the facts on the ground and a commitment to resolving the crisis in Gaza.

Al Qahera News reported Friday the reparation of the road at Rafah Crossing on the Palestinian side by Egyptian equipment in order to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip scheduled to start on Saturday, October 21.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry told CNN on Wednesday that Israel had struck the Palestinian side of Rafah Crossing four times, incurring the injury of four Egyptian workers.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres made a visit to Egypt's Rafah Friday to follow up on preparations to start the delivery of humanitarian aid Saturday. In tandem, world leaders are flocking into Egypt to attend the Cairo Peace Summit also scheduled for Saturday to discuss the developments in Gaza.

Until present, 31 countries and three international organizations have confirmed their participation. Meanwhile, scores of Egyptians are demonstrating on the streets to protest Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and the displacement of Gaza residents.
