President Sisi affirms Egypt's desire for continued collaboration with African Union Commission

CAIRO - 17 October 2023: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Moussa Faki, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, noted that the President welcomed Faki's visit to Cairo to participate in the special envoys' retreat in Africa aimed at enhancing peace and security across the continent.

 

President al-Sisi expressed Egypt's aspirations for continued close cooperation and coordination with the African Union Commission to advance joint African efforts in various fields. This includes a focus on economic integration, regional inclusion, peace, security, institutional reforms within the union, and collaboration with international partners.

 

In response, Faki emphasized Egypt's significance and influence in the African continent. He expressed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts in aiding the development of its African counterparts and its commitment to preserving both security and political stability on the continent. This commitment was exemplified through hosting the African special envoys' retreat and providing full logistical and substantive support for its success. The retreat serves as a crucial platform for exchanging experiences and diverse perspectives to contribute to conflict resolution and the maintenance and construction of peace.

 

The official spokesperson also noted that the meeting discussed developments in various regional and continental issues. These included updates on several conflicts within Africa and political efforts to resolve them. Key topics of discussion were the situations in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa, as well as the situation in Sudan.
