CAIRO – 12 October 2023: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced his plan to visit a number of countries in the Middle East, including Egypt, amid the current ongoing Israeli-Palestinian escalation.

Blinken made the remarks in a press conference in Tel Aviv on Thursday.

Besides Egypt, Blinken will also visit Jordan, where he will meet with King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

His tour also includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, according to the Financial Times.

“Across each of these engagements I will continue pressing countries to help prevent the conflict from spreading and to use their leverage with Hamas to immediately and unconditionally release the hostages,” he stated.

Israel has leveled up its airstrikes against the Gaza Strip over the past days, killing hundreds of Palestinians including children and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.

Amid Israeli aggression, Blinken vowed steadfast support for Israel.

Since the start of the current conflict, Egypt has been calling for both sides of the conflict to prioritize de-escalation and exercise utmost restraint.

Egypt has also made intensive contacts with international influential parties as well the Palestinian and Israeli sides to contain the situation.

Egypt has warned of the conflict’s consequences on the lives of Palestinian and Israeli civilians and its potential risks on the region’s security and stability.

Moreover, Egypt has stressed keenness to provide aid to the Palestinians in Gaza, which total more then 2 million people.
