CAIRO - 11 October 2023: A report by the Egyptian Center for Thought and Strategic Studies revealed that the goal of the Egyptian approach to the security of its northern borders was development, after the end of the terrorist threat in North Sinai.

Development and reconstruction have become the first line of defense for this region, through the implementation of an expanded development plan that addresses the developmental deficiencies that have taken root in most areas of Sinai.

The report stressed that the state was keen to move towards this effort alongside efforts to combat terrorism and establish security in all areas of Sinai, which has already been done over the past ten years, so that the region witnessed a new victory similar to the glorious crossing of 1973, but this time it is "a developmental victory that it chose."

The state chose the most difficult option, which is to get rid of terrorism and launch the development efforts in all parts of Sinai, “the land of turquoise," both in parallel.

The starting point for the comprehensive plan for the development of Sinai was through Presidential Decree No. 107, issued on February 25, 2018, which allocated a historic budget estimated at 600 billion pounds, to implement 994 development projects in Sinai, the majority of which were completed on the ground, and most of them are national projects. especially those related to infrastructure projects and economic and service projects that include health and education in the first place, in addition to economic projects.

The report stated that in total, 17 new integrated development clusters were created for the people of Sinai, including 10 clusters in North Sinai, and 7 in the south, at a total cost estimated at approximately 5.7 billion pounds, in addition to the social housing projects that were established in Sinai, with a total 12 thousand housing units, at a cost of approximately two billion pounds, within 52 thousand housing units in 4 new urban cities such as: (New Rafah City, New Ismailia City, Bir al-Abd City, and Salam City East of Port Said) built on 28 thousand acres to accommodate 1.3 million people.

This is in addition to the establishment of 2,794 Bedouin homes in several areas of North Sinai, and the development of unsafe areas in South Sinai, through the establishment of development clusters provided with integrated services.

Naturally, the Suez Canal Economic Zone was one of the most important tributaries that provided investment and industrial development for the Sinai Peninsula, as this zone extends within 5 governorates (Port Said - Ismailia - Suez - North Sinai - South Sinai), and includes 6 sea ports (East Port Said Port, West Port Said Port, Al-Arish Port, Ain Sokhna Port, Al-Tur Port, Adabiya Port), and it also includes 4 industrial zones (East Port Said region - East Ismailia region - West Qantara region - Ain Sokhna region).

The total volume of investments within this region has reached about 18 billion dollars, providing 80,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, and many factories located in the aforementioned industrial areas have begun work and production.
