Egyptian FM discusses developmental cooperation, investment with EU commissioner

CAIRO – 4 October 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Wednesday a phone call from EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi to build upon the EU-Egypt Partnership 2017-2022 aimed at strengthening the existing trade and investment relationship.

 

Minister Shokry valued the current cooperation embodied in numerous joint programmes and projects, expressing aspiration to consolidating the developmental section in the relations between Egypt and the union as well as bolstering European investments.

 

The main areas of cooperation can be clean energy and combating illegal migration through the Mediterranean, the minister noted. On his side, the EU commissioner underscored the union's prioritization to boosting partnership with Egypt, highlighting the European institutions' readiness to take part in developmental projects and new investments that would serve mutual interests.
