CAIRO – 24 September 2023: Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq agreed to prepare for an upcoming tripartite summit scheduled to be held in Cairo, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement on Sunday.

The agreement was made during a tripartite meeting between Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Fouad Hussein, on the sidelines of the 78th meetings of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) in the Egyptian Foreign Minister’s residency in New York.

The three foreign ministers discussed ways to activate cooperation between them in several economic and political fields, Abu Zeid said.

They agreed to complete projects proposed among them, and propose new ideas and projects in the fields of electrical connectivity, renewable energy, communications, trade, industry, transportation, health, pharmaceutical industries, housing and reconstruction, as well as areas concerned with culture, tourism, youth, sports, security and defense cooperation.

The ministers also addressed the situation in the region including the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis.

On June 27, 2021, a tripartite summit was held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister of Iraq Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The leaders affirmed that they reached consensus on the need to intensify consultation and coordination between the three countries on the most important issues of the region in light of the successive international and regional developments. Hence, mutual cooperation would be key to confront common challenges, particularly amid the regional interventions threatening Arab national security, which requires Arab solidarity and unity.
