CAIRO – 11 September 2023: The government based in eastern Libya announced Monday that Storm Daniel had claimed the lives of 2,000 in Derna, and that over 5,000 were missing.

The government added that seven buildings collapsed, and that access to the city was difficult as the roads and bridges had been immersed. Further, 27 were killed in cities other than Derna.

Egypt offered its condolences to the bereaved families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. In a press release Monday, the Foreign Ministry expressed Monday its solidarity with Libya following the deadly storm that recently hit the country and caused flooding and torrential rains.
