CAIRO - 7 September 2023: Egypt’s Ambassador to Kenya Wael Nasreddin said Egypt has taken part at the Africa Climate Summit 2023 with a high-level delegation, under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, to develop a unified African stance to be expressed in the United Nations climate change conference (COP28), slated for November in UAE.

On the sidelines of his participation at the Africa Summit, hosted by Kenya on Sept. 5-6, he said that Madbouli’s participation contributes to sustaining gains made by developing countries, particularly African states, at the United Nations climate change conference (COP27), hosted by Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh last November.

The diplomat also shed light on the important tour of Madbouli in the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi, where he received a detailed explanation about the hospital, which has a modern facility of 260 beds and highly skilled and experienced specialists and professional medical staff.

In July, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry addressed via video conference the first meeting of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) business leaders group.

Shoukry and Nassef Sawiris, the CEO of OCI Global that operates in the domain of hydrogen, nitrogen and energy, co-chair the business group.

In his remarks during the meeting, Shoukry, COP27 president, stressed the keenness of the Egyptian COP presidency on maintaining cooperation with private sector partners towards boosting efforts of the just transition to eco-friendly energy sources.

The foreign minister said COP27, which was hosted by the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November, witnessed wide participation from states and governments alongside representatives of the private sector.

He highlighted the crucial role of the business community and corporates in handling the impacts of climate change, as well as their contribution to putting in effect the outcomes of Sharm El Sheikh climate conference.
