CAIRO - 5 September 2023: The President of the National Population Program in Nigeria, Haj Nasser Issa Kuara, has heaped praise on Egypt for its exemplary organization of the Global Conference on Population, Health, and Development 2023.

"It's an extraordinary conference where experiences and visions are exchanged, discussing the management of population, health, and development portfolios," he said.

During the "Challenges and Opportunities" session of the ongoing conference in the New Administrative Capital, Kuara emphasized, "Nigeria is among the countries that endorsed the International Conference on Population and Development agreement.

We have crafted national policies pertinent to population, which were formulated in 2022. The key objective of these policies is to drastically reduce maternal and child deaths to zero by 2030. Moreover, we aim to fulfill the increasing population needs, address issues related to mothers, and empower women and girls."

He continued, "We strive to specifically lower maternal mortality rates and have collaborated with development partners to achieve this. Furthermore, we've managed to reduce the increasing number of births year after year. We aim to make services more accessible and set up a family planning program."

Egypt, with its rich history and influential role in the African continent, has often been at the forefront of regional and international initiatives. The Global Conference on Population, Health, and Development 2023 provides a platform for countries to discuss pertinent issues such as population growth, maternal and child health, and sustainable development.

With Nigeria being one of the most populous countries in Africa, its engagement and active participation in such forums is vital. The shared experiences and collaborative efforts put forth at this conference can pave the way for future initiatives and policies to tackle the population and health challenges that many countries face.
