CAIRO – 4 September 2023: Kenyan President William Ruto has affirmed his keenness to consult regularly with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Ruto made the remarks as he received Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad and Minister of Irrigation Hani Sewilam on Monday on the sidelines of the Africa Climate Summit 2023 held in Nairobi from 4-6 September.

Madbouli conveyed to Ruto Sisi’s greetings, saying that Sisi looks forward to receiving the Kenyan president in Egypt at the earliest opportunity.

Madbouli and Ruto also discussed a possible forum between the Egyptian and Kenyan businessmen on the sidelines of the summit.

Madbouli is taking part in Africa Climate Summit 2023 on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The summit is held under the title of "Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World.”

During the Africa Climate Summit, leaders will be urged to make ambitious pledges and commitments in order to reverse the course of climate change within Africa and on a global scale.

The summit comes amid African governments' limited ability to respond to the climate crisis due to debts and economic woes, which requires “urgent action to provide debt relief and increased liquidity,” said the summit’s website.

The continent is also disproportionately affected by the global temperature rise and is projected to experience escalating physical climate risks, the summit’s website added.
