PARIS, Aug 30 (MENA) - France has condemned the coup in Gabon, government spokesman Olivier Veran said on Wednesday.

France was watching developments closely and "reiterates its desire to see the results of the election respected, once they are known," Veran, quoted by France 24, added.

The spokesman referred to Saturday's disputed presidential polls in the West African country.

A group of high-ranking military officers in the West African nation of Gabon announced on public television Wednesday that they were "putting an end to the current regime" and annulling the results of national elections. The statement came just after the country's election authority declared President Ali Bongo Ondima the winner of another term in office.
