Egypt's PM attends BRICS summit on behalf of President El Sisi

CAIRO - 23 August 2023: Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, earlier Wednesday to attend the 15th summit meetings of the BRICS.


Madbouli is due to attend the summit, themed “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism”, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The BRICS meetings kicked off here Tuesday and will last until Thursday.

Madbouli is scheduled to attend a banquet and cultural ceremony organized by President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa in honor of leaders of the attending delegations.

The Egyptian premier will deliver a speech Thursday and will hold meetings with representatives of a number of companies.

CAPMAS records highlight a trade value increase between Egypt and BRICS, which increased by 10.5 percent from 2021 to 2022, reaching $31.2 billion in 2022 from $28.3 billion in 2021. 

CAPMAS also recorded an increase in the Egyptian export value to BRICS countries at approximating $4.9 billion in 2022 as opposed to $4.6 billion in 2021. While imports from BRICS countries to Egypt experienced an increase recording $26.4 billion in 2022 as opposed to $23.6 billion in 2021.
