CAIRO - 26 July 2023: Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh affirmed Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the rights and interests of the Palestinian people, citing its efforts to serve Palestinian national unity through hosting a meeting of the general secretaries of the Palestinian factions to reach a comprehensive national vision and solidify Palestinian ranks.

This came during his meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Palestine Ihab Soliman to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories, in light of the continued aggression of the occupation authorities against the Palestinian people.

The meeting took up the results of the latest visit of the premier and a high-profile ministerial delegation to Cairo, efforts to strengthen
trade ties and cooperation with the private sector, in addition to the opening of Azharite institutes in Palestine, and the visit of a delegation of Egyptian businessmen to Palestine to review investment opportunities.

The ambassador asserted Egypt's readiness to provide all forms of support and aid to the Palestinian state and people, to help them achieve their legitimate rights in accordance with international resolutions and international law.

Egypt was hosted a meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh between high-level political and security officials from Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan and the United States on Sunday will seek to support de-escalation between the Palestine and Israel, said the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The five-way meeting aims at “backing dialogue between the two sides to work towards ending unilateral actions and escalation, breaking the cycle of violence and achieving calm,” the ministry added.

According to the statement, “this would pave the way for creating an appropriate atmosphere to resume the peace process.”

Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Authority Hussein Al-Sheikh, who is due to lead the Palestinian delegation, tweeted that the meeting is meant to “defend the rights of our Palestinian people to freedom and independence, and to demand an end to this continuous Israeli aggression against us."
