Egypt’s FM addresses first meeting of COP27 business leaders group

CAIRO – 10 July 2023: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry addressed on Monday via video conference the first meeting of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) business leaders group.

Shoukry and Nassef Sawiris, the CEO of OCI Global that operates in the domain of hydrogen, nitrogen and energy, co-chair the business group.

In his remarks during the meeting, Shoukry, COP27 president, stressed the keenness of the Egyptian COP presidency on maintaining cooperation with private sector partners towards boosting efforts of the just transition to eco-friendly energy sources.

The foreign minister said COP27, which was hosted by the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November, witnessed wide participation from states and governments alongside representatives of the private sector.

He highlighted the crucial role of the business community and corporates in handling the impacts of climate change, as well as their contribution to putting in effect the outcomes of Sharm El Sheikh climate conference.
