Egyptian president, Italian PM discuss illegal migration, global food crisis in phone call

CAIRO – 6 July 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Thursday a phone call from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussing the global food crisis, illegal migration, and ways of concerting international efforts on that front.

The call also tackled updates on bilateral relations, and on the regional and international scenes. In that context, the two leaders lauded the existing cooperation to encounter challenges in the Mediterranean region, and affirmed that joint cooperation must be bolstered as well as coordination and consultation on regional issues.

In a meeting with heads of Italian mining companies, including Barton International and BSM Industriali. President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi said in June that Egypt had been interested to lure in major Italian companies to the Egyptian sectors of mining and transformational industries. And, that is to increase the industrial added value in this sector.
