13-floor inhabited building collapses in Alexandria, number of victims not yet known

CAIRO – 26 June 2023: A 13-storey inhabited building has collapsed on Monday, located at Khalil Hamada Street, in Al Montaza neighborhood, in Alexandria governorate.

According to eyewitnesses, number of the building residents are still under the rubble, in addition to others who were in a supermarket below the collided building. Also, number of cars were destroyed.

The Civil Protection forces along with Fire Department of the Alexandria Security Directorate headed to the accident location to extract the victims from under the rubble.

The number of victims still not yet known. Ambulances, security forces and officials of the Al-Montazah district were the first to arrive to the location.

Major General Muhammad al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, revealed that the collapsed property had a Vertical hemispheres, stressing that the Civil Protection men are continuing to remove the rubble to search for victims.

Al Sharif indicated that the property is used as rental apartments during the summer season.

He also noted that a removal decision was issued since a while against the last floor.
