CAIRO – 11 June 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukr will receive Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in downtown Cairo, Monday afternoon, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Sunday.

 

On September 23, 2022, Shoukry met with Wennesland, on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

 

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, indicated that the meeting tackled the developments in Palestine, where the two sides expressed their concern over the escalation of violence, and agreed to exert efforts to reduce the tension and prevent regression while emphasizing the necessity to preserve the current status of Jerusalem.

 

Moreover, the Foreign Minister reviewed the Egyptian efforts in supporting the Palestinian side at various levels and moving with various parties to consolidate the truce in Gaza Strip.

 

Ambassador Abu Zeid concluded his remarks by noting that the two sides exchanged views on means to revive the Peace Process and break the current stalemate in order to settle the Palestinian Cause in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant international resolutions.
