Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese led Easter Mass at Abbassiya Cathedral, Cairo on April 15, 2023

CAIRO – 15 April 2023: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese led Easter Mass at Abbassiya Cathedral, Cairo, after the Holy Week, ending a 55-day period of Lent.

 

The mass began with hymns when Pope Tawadros II, along with a number of the priests and bishops, entered the cathedral.

 

The Mass was attended by a number of ministers, public figures, intellectuals, journalists and others.

 

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi sent a greeting cable to Pope Tawadros II on the occasion of Easter, Extra News reported.

 

The Orthodox Church started in February the Great Lent, and held masses and prayers at various churches nationwide.

 

Easter, aka Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian celebration commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, according to the Christian belief.
