CAIRO - 6 March 2023: The proceedings of the 159th session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives kicked off Monday at the league headquarters in Cairo under Egypt's presidency.

The permanent delegates will discuss the draft agenda of the council at the ministerial level on Wednesday under Egypt's presidency.

The agenda includes political, economic and social files topped by Palestine, Yemen and Syria, in addition to Arab relations with regional, international and African blocs.

The participants will also discuss Iran's interferences in the domestic affairs of Arab countries.

Israeli escalation

The AL council session comes while Israel has been blamed for bloody escalation in the Palestinian West Bank over the past months, including a raid on the Palestinian Nablus city in the West Bank, which killed 10 Palestinians and injured a hundred in late February.

This is in addition to a recent deadly raid on Jenin camp, which killed nine Palestinians.

The Israeli raids in the West Bank over the past months have claimed the lives of around 200 Palestinians and led to the arrest of at least 2,600 others, reported the Associated Press.

Egypt has denounced the “dangerous and continued” escalation witnessed by the occupied Palestinian lands recently, warning that such escalation exacerbates and complicates the situation and undermines efforts to achieve calm between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Israeli escalation also affects the chances of reviving the peace process on the basis on the international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution, Egypt has stressed.
