Egypt examines 155K children for early detection of genetic diseases

CAIRO - 17 August 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced the examination of 155,000 children, as part of the President’s initiative for early detection of genetic diseases in newborns.
 
This comes under the initiative of the “100 million healthy lives”, with the aim of reaching a healthy generation free from disabilities.
 
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the first phase of the initiative aims to detect 19 genetic diseases in premature babies, in the nurseries of the Ministry of Health and Population hospitals. 
 
He added that the second phase of the initiative is scheduled to conduct a medical survey for all newborns in all units.
