CAIRO – 14 July 2022: Head of Egypt’s mission in Ramallah Tarek Tayel and Palestinian Minister of Interior Ziad Hab al-Reeh have highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation between Egyptian and Palestinian institutions, including the interior ministries.

In a meeting on Wednesday, they discussed means of boosting and developing these relations within the context of special relations between Egypt and Palestine and their two peoples, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry read.

Egypt will continue to provide all forms of support to Palestine in various fields, including rehabilitation and transferring expertise, Tayel said.

He added that this is considered one of the most important pillars of cooperation that aims at consolidating the foundations of the Palestinian institutions in order to establish an independent Palestinian state.

Tayel affirmed that an independent Palestinian state should be built on the borders of 4 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital and in line with the legitimacy determinations and relevant international resolutions.

Egypt has been pushing for the resumption of peace process between Israelis and Palestinians, consolidation of ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza, and sponsors the ongoing reconstruction process in the enclave.

Last month, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with UN Mideast peace envoy Tor Wennesland ways of providing an appropriate atmosphere for pushing forward peacemaking drive between the Palestinians and Israelis as soon as possible in accordance with the two-state principle and international legitimacy resolutions.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said the two sides exchanged viewpoints towards the developments of the Palestinian issue.

Shoukry underlined the importance of breaking the current stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, engaging regional and international sides concerned in the peace process and exerting necessary effort to achieve hoped-for targets to cement pillars of security and stability in the region.

He also called for refraining from all measures that undermine chances for achieving desired peace, reiterating Egypt's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The UN envoy posted Shoukry on the outcome of his contacts with all sides concerned over the past period, expressing appreciation for Egypt's support for achieving truce, pushing forward Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations and securing development needs of the Palestinians.
