Sisi: East Med gas resources catalyst for cooperation, peace in region

CAIRO – 15 June 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that the natural gas resources in East Mediterranean region are a catalyst of cooperation, peace and development for the best interests of peoples of the region.

Sisi made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving the heads of delegations attending the ministerial meeting of the East Mediterranean Forum.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Petroleum Minister Tareq Mulla.

He said the forum will play a key role in the coming period to solve the international energy crisis, thus contributing to the aspired economic development in the region.

This requires intensifying cooperation at both bilateral and regional levels in order to realize the optimal use of resources, Sisi said.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed participants in the ministerial meeting of the East Mediterranean Forum, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.

Sisi voiced appreciation for the participants' efforts to push forward the forum's activities over the past three years, thus contributing to entrenching its key role in the energy domain at regional and international issues.

For their part, participants in the forum's meeting underlined the strategic importance of the Egyptian initiative for establishing the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.

They hailed Egypt's effective efforts under Sisi to launch organized regional dialogue on natural gas, thus enhancing cooperation in the energy domain.

The president underlined Egypt's full support for the forum and its goals for the best interests of people in the region.

He added that this helps securing sustainable energy resources for the region, thus prompting the culture of cooperation, development and peace in the region
